Sleep Deprivation and What to Do About It

If you are sleep deprived, you’re not living your best life. Today, I’m going to talk about some signs and symptoms of sleep deprivation and the detrimental effects that it has on your body.

Let’s talk about ways to get better sleep and find you some pain relief! Imagine a life where you rise out of bed, feeling well-rested and energized. That is possible for you!

Maybe all it takes is a little bit of comfort.

Signs of Sleep Deprivation

If you feel like a zombie during the day time, you’re not alone. Up to 35% of adults don’t get enough shut-eye in the day. Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s acceptable.

Symptoms of sleep deprivation include:

  • Moodiness
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Difficulty learning new concepts and concentrating
  • A “foggy” feeling
  • Forgetfulness

Going through your days feeling foggy, forgetful and irritable is so uncomfortable! Worse still, not getting adequate sleep has long-term consequences on your overall health.

  • Increases risk of car accidents
  • Ages the skin
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Memory problems
  • Weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • Weakened immune system
  • Poor sense of balance
  • Low sex drive
  • Shortened lifespan

What a lengthy list of disease and serious issues! The repercussions of sleep deprivation are deadly.

The good news is that you can make changes to get quality sleep. Let’s talk about how to do that…

How to Get Quality Sleep

Prioritize sleep

If you’re neglecting the function of adequate sleep, maybe that list will motivate you to get more hours of sleep each night. Whether you’re staying out late with friends or you’re hard at work, consider tweaking your schedule so you can get the necessary amount of sleep that your body needs.

After all, your health is so important.

Then, there’re the people who desperately want to sleep, but don’t know how! They toss and turn for hours, but never seem to fall into a deep sleep.

At this point, it seems like you’ve tried everything. You’ve gotten earplugs, an eye mask, a weighted blanket, and cooled down the temperature of your room. Difficult as it was, you have stopped drinking caffeine and only use your bed for sleeping.

So now what? Have you considered that the issue may be your lack of comfort?
